Square Meter to Square Yard

A Square Meter (m²) is the foundational unit of area in the metric system and serves as the official SI (International System of Units) standard used globally. It is defined as the area of a square with sides that are exactly one meter long. In India, this unit is popularly known as ‘Gaj’, and it is one of the most common measurements used for pricing and selling residential plots of land, particularly in northern India. One square yard is exactly equal to 9 square feet.

The use of Gaj provides a convenient mid-sized unit that bridges the gap between the smaller square foot and the larger acre, making it perfect for defining the size of individual housing plots.
